Manos del Uruguay

Manos Del Uruguay was founded in 1968 by a group of women aiming to promote social and economic development in the rural areas of Uruguay. The aim was to produce handicrafts using traditional methods and to commercialise them for sophisticated markets.

The craftswomen are the owners of Manos Del Uruguay and have set up a non-for-profit organisations for rural women, to allow them to develop their communities without the need to leave their homes. They are grouped into 17 co-operatives, which spin, dye, knit and produce finished garments for sale throughout the world.

Silk Blend is 30% silk, 70% extrafine merino yarn, in a DK weight.  It has a phenomenal lustre and knits up into an incredibly luxurious fabric. Skeins are kettle dyed, with no dyelots.   Each skein is 100g and 150 yards/137 metres. Approx gauge is 22 to 24st per 4" on 3.5mm or 4mm needles.  Apologies for the price increase, but it seems all South American yarns are falling prey to rising costs.  Existing stock will remain at £11 a skein until all gone. Wool Clasica is a single ply Aran-weight spun from a luxurious blend of Merino and Corriedale wools. It is hand dyed in kettles to create a marbleized, striated effect, sometimes subtle, often dramatic. No two skeins are exactly the same and there aren't any dye lots. We recommend that you buy enough yarn to complete a project and if necessary, alternate knitting two rows from one skein with two rows from another to blend any slight differences into your project. Each skein is 100g and 138 yards/126 metres.  Approx gauge is 16 to 18st per 4" on 5mm or 6mm needles.
